MAY — Prague Fashion Atelier
MAY is a Prague-based fashion atelier founded by designer Štěpánka Pivcová. The atelier focuses on timeless womenswear, custom-made garments and limited collections built on precise tailoring, the natural movement of silhouette and a deep understanding of material.
MAY creates garments with an emphasis on construction, proportion and the long-term value of a wardrobe. Not as seasonal products, but as part of a personal style that evolves over time.
Philosophy
MAY approaches clothing through silhouette, movement and the relationship between the body and material rather than through short-term trends.
Each piece is created with attention to presence, wearability and precision. Clothing is not perceived as decoration, but as a form that influences posture, self-perception and the way the body moves.
MAY is built on the principle of garments designed with the ambition to endure over time materially, structurally and visually.
Materials and Construction
The atelier works primarily with natural materials, especially wool, silk and their variations.
An essential part of the process is the selection of material according to its movement, softness, colour and ability to shape the silhouette.
MAY is dedicated to precise tailoring, pattern construction and the creation of garments that respect the individuality of the female body rather than attempting to transform it according to trend-driven forms.
Štěpánka Pivcová
Designer Štěpánka Pivcová has worked in the fields of fashion design, garment construction and custom-made clothing for more than 25 years.
Her work combines experience with fabrics, tailoring craftsmanship, a deep knowledge of materials and a sensitivity to silhouette, with an emphasis on a cultivated and long-term approach to fashion.
MAY is rooted in the belief that a well-made garment does not need to follow the pace of seasonality, but can become a natural part of a woman’s personal space over time.
MAY has also been chosen by the First Lady of the Czech Republic, Eva Pavlová, for whom Štěpánka Pivcová designed the inaugural costume and cape.
Visiting the Atelier
Appointments at the atelier can be arranged via WhatsApp.
During a personal meeting, the collection is explored together to select silhouettes, proportions and materials that best reflect both the character of the garment and the client’s way of life.
Each model can be individually adjusted, from length and neckline to construction details. The process also includes the selection of colours and materials from Italian mills and suppliers.
A fitting follows, during which proportions, silhouette movement and final construction nuances are refined.
The finished garment is usually ready within approximately two weeks for collection at the Prague atelier or delivery by courier service.
Production
All MAY garments are created exclusively in the Prague atelier in limited quantities.
Each model undergoes an individual process of construction, adjustments and final finishing, with an emphasis on precise tailoring and the long-term quality of the garment.
Once completed, the garment is carefully packed and prepared for collection or delivery.
