MAY Studio at Designblok 2024 — The Art of High Craft
Share
Designblok, Prague International Design Festival 2024, has just concluded.
MAY Studio took part in the High Craft section — a space dedicated to mastery and craftsmanship, set in the serene grandeur of the Prague Castle Riding Hall.
High Craft — Vysoké řemeslo — celebrated the invisible excellence behind every garment. In fashion, mastery is not only the realm of designers, but also of weavers, cutters, pattern makers, seamstresses, and tailors. Their precision remains unseen, yet it is the foundation of true beauty.
Together with the remarkable Zbyněk Krulich and Petr Hák of the award-winning studio cirque.menu, I had the honour to bring this dialogue between design and craftsmanship to life.
At the heart of the installation stood MAY Studio’s iconic cashmere coat — displayed as an art piece. Details such as the embroidered logo, seams, care label, and brand QR code invited viewers to look closer; to notice what usually stays hidden.
The exhibition was marked by a bold red hue — both the colour of the season and the signature tone of cirque.menu Milan. This vivid contrast infused the space with movement and energy, while visitors were invited to touch the fine cashmere, experiencing the tactile essence of the material.
Each guest left with a sleep mask crafted from cashmere offcuts — a gesture of care and sustainability, created together with my interns, Klára and Šárka.
Gratitude to everyone who became part of this quiet celebration of craftsmanship.
