Flannel: A Symbol of Masculinity, Ease, and the New Luxury
Why is the shirt favored by President Petr Pavel so perfectly aligned with global trends?
“He truly wears it,” says Štěpánka Pivcová, Czech designer and founder of MAY, who oversees the President’s styling and occasionally dresses the First Lady, Eva Pavlová, for official occasions.
The flannel shirt was already part of the President’s personal wardrobe — and, as Pivcová explains, it makes him appear “masculine and informal, yet composed.” For that reason, she decided to preserve this piece in his visual identity throughout the campaign.
Later, President Pavel offered his now-iconic flannel shirt to his former rival Danuše Nerudová, describing it as “a symbol of ease and composure.”
